5 Things we learned from Bournemouth’s thumping of Man United

  1. Why do Bournemouth love coming to Old Trafford so much? I was coming into this game with zero belief that United were actually going to compete with the Cherries today but the performance was somehow even worse than I’d imagined, right from the off Bournemouth were the far better team and created a number of chances to take the lead early on. Luckily for United they didn’t manage to take them until towards the end of the half when a horrifying challenge by Ayden Heaven that could have broke Evanilson’s leg had he have been closer gave Bournemouth a chance to whip the ball into the box, Justin Kluivert’s free-kick floated all the way to Rayan at the back-post who fired Bournemouth into the lead at Old Trafford. As if things couldn’t get any worse right at the end of the half Leny Yoro slipped when heading back to his own goal with Truffert picking up the ball and putting it on a plate for Marcus Tavernier who doubled Bournemouth’s lead heading into half-time, yet another shambolic performance from United who were once again booed off at half-time by the home supporters. The second half was going much the same way with United offering absolutely nothing going forward which gave Bournemouth a chance to kill the game as a ball was launched towards the United box with Lammens scurrying out to try and clear but the ball got held up in the wind giving Evanilson a chance to sneak in and nip the ball ahead of the United keeper before curling the ball into an empty net to put the Cherries 0-3 up at Old Trafford for the third time in four years, a dismal display from Carrick’s side in what is surely his last game as United manager.

  2. Bournemouth finally look to be clicking under Marco Rose. This last week has been magical for Bournemouth with wins against Sunderland, AC Milan and now Man United in which they’ve been the dominant team in every game. They started the season poorly under new manager Marco Rose conceding far too many goals but that seems to have been sorted by the new manager and they now look solid at the back along with looking really dangerous going forward, they’ll not get an easier game all season to be fair up against a rubbish United side but they still did their job and in the end probably should have won four or five nil. Despite not having their two best players fit in Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott this team continues to dazzle going forward and Evanilson along with Rayan were the two best players on the pitch for Bournemouth today, Rayan killed Dalot down the right all game along with Evanilson who was immaculate as per usual up front for Bournemouth and tied his game together with a brilliant finish from outside the box after rounding Lammens. Defensively it’s hard to judge Bournemouth today due to just how poor United were but keeping a clean sheet at Old Trafford is never easy so huge credit has to go to the likes of Truffert, Hill, Silva and Smith. Overall it was an excellent performance all round for Bournemouth who seem to have left their early season troubles behind, can Marco Rose have Bournemouth pushing for Europe again this season?

  3. The worst position United have been post-Ferguson. I feel like that’s something I’ve said multiple times over the last three or four years but we are here yet again with United only one point off the relegation zone in 16th, what is there to even say about today’s performance? Carrick dropped Bruno Fernandes after his comments post-Como which I thought was the right decision but he decides to put Tielemans back in the 10 instead of Zirkzee who scored on Wednesday, he moved Mount to the left-wing, kept Mbeumo up front, had Dalot playing left-back, Yoro playing right-back then had a centre-back partnership of Maguire and Heaven. Is that not one of the worst teams we’ve put out in the last 13 years? So many players playing out of position and I understand we have injuries but Carrick is doing himself no favours with his selections for the team, it’s hard to analyse the game without getting emotional as I’ve got so much I want to say regarding everything that’s going on at the club but I think the fans summed it up perfectly after the game. Carrick got cheers when he did what looked like a farewell walk around the stadium and as soon as he entered the tunnel the fans started booing the players, that’s something I’ve never seen at Old Trafford but I think it shows where everyone is at at the moment. Carrick is obviously going to be sacked in the next week or two then it’s up to INEOS to decide the next manager, they’ve failed in keeping Ten Hag, sacking Ten Hag, hiring Amorim, sacking Amorim, hiring Carrick and now probably sacking Carrick. What makes you think they’re going to get the next manager right? Absolutely nothing.

  4. Is their an actual chance Man United get relegated this season? I cannot believe I am writing those words but if you had told a Spurs fan last season at this point if they were in a relegation battle they would have laughed at you, so why can’t United be in a relegation battle this season? If INEOS for whatever reason whether it be financial or simply having no plan keep Carrick we’ll undoubtedly be in the relegation zone by the next international break, the funny thing is that we’ve had an easy start to the season playing the likes of Hull, Ipswich, Everton, Spurs, Fulham, Bournemouth which means in our next three games we play Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool. With the current mood of the club being literally on the floor and the players not responding to Carrick we’re in a spot so similar to Spurs last year it’s actually crazy, Spurs waited far too long to sack Thomas Frank and then got the next appointment wrong in Igor Tudor. Roberto De Zerbi saved the club but don’t get it twisted United can’t attract a coach at the level of De Zerbi over the next few weeks, the names mentioned are Howe, Nagelsmann and Conte. My pick is Antonio Conte as the club badly needs a manager with a bit of personality and fire but obviously that’s the last thing INEOS want after Amorim last year, if it’s Eddie Howe and I have to watch Jason Tindall on the touchline at Old Trafford that might just kill my the love for this sport altogether. Nagelsmann is the one in between but I thought his coaching with Germany over the summer at the World Cup was awful crashing out to Paraguay on penalties, I would be careful with appointing him after that. I would definitely take it over Eddie Howe though, it’s a scary time to be a United fan right now. I suppose it fits in with the Halloween theme, you don’t need to go the cinema to watch a scary movie when United are playing, Carrick’s side are the scariest thing out there at the minute.

  5. Where does this result leave both teams? Bournemouth’s recent results have lifted them out of the relegation zone and they now sit in 13th place in the league, United with yet another loss keeps them in 16th place only one point of the relegation zone which I can’t even bare to think about. Bournemouth are in Carabao Cup action later this week on Wednesday at home to Aston Villa whilst United are back in action on Saturday away to Chelsea. As for me I’ll be back later on with Barcelona vs Real Madrid, should be a cracker as always hopefully.
