Bayern Munich 1 PSG 1(5-6)

  1. A complete contrast to the first leg. Going into this game all the talk was about how it could live up to last weeks game but PSG were simply a different class all over the pitch tonight, mind you we thought we were going to get another classic as PSG scored in the first couple of minutes of the game. Fabian Ruiz flicked the ball round the corner to Kvarastkhelia who sprinted down the left and pulled the ball back to Ousmane Dembele who fired the ball into the roof of the net to put PSG into the lead on the night, for the rest of the half Bayern dominated the ball but struggled to create anything clear-cut with Musiala going the closest forcing Safanov into a good save near the end of the half. There were two controversial moments that went against Bayern as Nuno Mendes wasn’t given a second yellow for a hand ball near the half-way line with the ref deeming that it wasn’t enough for a red card, the second one is that a penalty wasn’t awarded for a handball by Joao Neves after Vitinha fired the ball against his teammates hand. The second half continued the same way as Bayern pushed for a goal to get back in the game PSG looked so dangerous on the break with Kvarastkhelia and Doue going close but Bayern eventually did score as Alphonso Davies gave the ball to Kane just in the box who worked some space and fired past Safanov to pull Bayern level on the night, unfortunately for Bayern it was four minutes into injury time so PSG just saw the game out and head to Budapest at the end of May seeking back-to-back Champions Leagues.

  2. What an unbelievable defensive performance from PSG. After last weeks there was question marks regarding both teams at the back but we saw tonight just how strong PSG are defensively when they want to defend, when they scored early on PSG knew that play on the counter like last week and hurt Bayern where they easily could have scored 2 or 3 goals if it wasn’t for Neuer in the net. The PSG defenders were absolutely magnificent with Willian Pacho the man-of-the-match for me tonight alongside Kvarastkhelia and Joao Neves as the best players on the pitch, I’ve waxed lyrical every PSG about Kvarastkhelia but I just can’t help doing it again as he outshone every other attacker on the pitch by quite some distance looking so dangerous all night long ripping Laimer and Upamecano apart for 90 minutes along with working so hard defensively for the team. Nuno Mendes got booked early on but was brilliant up against Olise keeping him quiet for the rest of the game when Bayern were trying to work the ball out to that side at every occasion, even Zaire-Emery had a good game at right-back covering for Hakimi against Diaz yet again showing just how strong PSG were defensively tonight. We saw a different side to PSG tonight keeping Bayern at bay until the 94th minute at the Allianz which not many teams are capable off.

  3. A disappointing performance by Bayern tonight. I was surprised at the odds before the game having Bayern at big favourites to go through tonight but they just weren’t good enough against the European champions, the attack which we’ve been told is the best in Europe didn’t turn up in Bayern’s biggest game of the season which has to be so frustrating for Vincent Kompany and Bayern supporters. The goal that PSG scored was brilliant where I don’t think there’s actually much that Bayern could have done to prevent the goal like some of them last week where PSG’s attackers are just too good, I was surprised to see Stanisic starting at left-back when Bayern needed to overturn the deficit and I don’t think it worked in the game as Doue had a really good game on the right-wing. The biggest disappointment for me was the Bayern wingers who were so poor for 90 minutes and in particular Michael Olise, with Mendes on a booking after 8 minutes you’d think Olise could tear the left-back apart but his final product was so uncharacteristically poor in his final product creating very little and shooting so poorly which isn’t like him. Again Jamal Musiala was poor and clearly isn’t 100% whether that’s fitness related or not he doesn’t look the player we know which was unfortunate over the two legs, overall the tie could have gone both ways but I think Kompany will be disappointed with the way his team played tonight.

  4. PSG are on the way to creating a dynasty. It’s kind of scary to think that this PSG isn’t even at their full power yet, theirs so many young players in this team whether it’s Joao Neves who’s 21, Desire Doue at 20, Nuno Mendes at 23, Zaire-Emery at 20 and Willian Pacho at 24 I could go on but that shows that this PSG could get scarier if they stay together and are already on the verge of winning back-to-back Champions leagues. You have to give flowers to Luis Enrique for building the team in his image kicking out the egos that you could argue have gone elsewhere and caused the same problems in their new teams which vindicates the Parisians decision to let go a lot of those players, the change in direction to go for young, hungry players has bared fruit and will continue to do so until Enrique leaves. Can PSG do a Real Madrid and win multiple Champions Leagues in a row? Only time will tell.

  5. It’s PSG vs Arsenal on May 30th in Budapest. We have are Champions League final which is a rematch of last years Champions League semi-final where PSG managed to beat Arsenal over both legs but in a one-off game anything can happen so there’s no reason for Arsenal not to be confident heading to Hungary at the end of May, PSG will undoubtedly be favourites having won the competition last year and still looking like the best team in Europe in my opinion yet again looking to win the second Champions League in their history. If your Arteta watching that game tonight you’ll be hoping that Jurrien Timber is back after watching Kvarastkhelia tonight as I think it’s safe to say that Ben White might potentially struggle to keep the Georgian quiet given the form he’s currently in, I suppose we’ll know closer to the time. Looking forward to the final at the end of May, lots of storylines heading into it for both teams
